Mother Earth

EarthQuoteJanuary was an interesting month for me.  Some might call them unfortunate events but for me they came in a way that didn’t hit me until the last puzzle piece was in place.  On January 2nd I woke up to a tick in my shin.  The following week I was hiking with my cousin at his property and had poison oak by the time I got home.  A few days after that I saw a mountain lion as I was walking out to my truck, it was walking up the dirt road, saw me and jumped into the forest.  A week after that a mudslide happened a half mile down the dirt road that blocked us in for 5 days.  During that time I was helping clear out mud and debris when I probably grabbed some poison oak roots or branches and got my second dose of poison oak, but a little worse than the first.  It has been raining like crazy and then I saw a double rainbow.  By the end of the month I looked back and realized that mother nature had been poking me over and over.  My intuition/gut feeling said she wanted me to write about her.

Mother Earth is our home.  She is our life, our way of existence in this Universe.  Without her we can’t exist as we do.  Food, water, shelter, protection, atmosphere and gravity are our basic needs and they all come from the Earth.  I am grateful to her less than I should be but probably more than most.  Every day I go outside and breath in that fresh forest air.  She has been good to me.  I love her!

Being Alive
I believe Earth is alive.  To me she is a living breathing being.  Aside from the fact that Earth has a magnetic field like other living things and some say the Earth has chakras like humans do I can’t prove she is alive, I just feel it.  While I think she has the power to heal herself over time, at this time I think she needs our help to overcome some obstacles that we have created.  For some reason I have this feeling that the more life you have the more peaceful things seem.  Every day I come down the mountain from what is a peaceful paradise into a deprived concrete jungle.  I could go on about how I feel in big cities but I know many people like the city life(and I may move to the city again some day).  When I talk about life I am talking about the number of localized living beings in one given area.  Trees, plants, fungus, worms, insects, birds, rodents, deer, cats, etc..  I feel that when these are all jammed into one area and undisturbed in their natural environment there is something about the energy that is present in that space.  To me it is more positive, or at a higher vibration.  There is something to be said for when people go out into the wilderness for a few days and come back feeling refreshed and more alive.  There are millions of auras that you come into contact with in the wilderness.  When I say auras I also mean the magnetic field of a living being.  I don’t think that the beings out in nature are stressed out, un-rested, or feeling the negative energy of anything around it.  They are vibrating at a higher frequency because of that.  When you go into town, you have less of the good life around you and more contact with lower vibrations.   And it seems to have a magnifying effect on either side.  Do you pay attention to the energy when you move from one place to the next?

Earthing
When you have physical contact with the Earth you are grounded to it, meaning you have an electrical connection to it.  There are many scientific studies that show the benefits of earthing.  Better health is the main benefit.  We have grown accustomed to being away from the earth in many ways.  Most people live in buildings now which are mainly made of wood and do not connect us with the Earth.  When we go outside we wear shoes made of rubber and plastic which keep us insulated from the Earth.  There are companies that make products to connect us to the Earth while at the same time giving us our modern day luxuries.  Mats and sheets that are plugged into wall outlets can ground you to the earth if the electrical circuit is grounded.  Many have claimed that they feel better after using these products.  Like most of my blogs, I tend to write them in hopes to help me create better lifestyle habits.  Of course I do not practice earthing as I would like.  Sometimes I go outside and put my hands on the ground for a little bit, but it is rare.  And the only time I take off my shoes outside is when I go to the beach.  So how about we all start to think about being more connected to the Earth and make a conscious effort to take off our shoes more when we are outside or even at the least touch the ground with our hands.  And of course you can buy products but to me that is not the same thing.  If you would like to learn more about Earthing you can check out The Earthing Institute for more info.  There is a lot of info there so have fun!

Sad times
Unfortunately we as humans have not been taking care of the Earth as much as we should be.  When most of us think about the current state of the Earth we may think of climate change.  When politicians talk about climate change I am skeptical.  Of course the Earth is warming up, we are at the end of an ice age cycle.  I feel like if we were to interfere with that natural process we are messing with a natural cycle.  We may be speeding up that cycle but it doesn’t mean that it is completely bad.  I don’t think the Earth will end up being a desert.  I think the Earth will heal itself over time, but we as humans need to be more mindful when choosing to do things that can damage the Earth and it’s beings that live on it.  For instance we don’t need to rely on nuclear power, oil, and plastic.  There are alternatives and we have the technology to use clean energy and cleaner biodegradable products.  There is a major crisis happening in the Pacific ocean and it will affect the whole planet.  Fukishima is a major problem.  I don’t understand how our world governments could have let this nuclear fallout even be possible.  We have corporations that are destroying entire ecosystems around the world because of the demand for products that come from the jungle.  Oil companies are spilling crude oil out into bodies of water endangering our drinking water and killing off any wild life that may be in the area(Dakota Access Pipeline).  Toxic waste of many sorts are not being disposed of properly.  We are fracking the Earth which just doesn’t sound like a good idea.  And the government wants us to not burn wood in our fire places anymore.  That is the least of our problems as we humans have been burning wood fires to keep warm for millennia.

Our impact
Individually there is not a lot we can do to help the Earth.  The big help has to come from those in power.  And as a collective we can put pressure on those in power to make it harder for big corporations to get away with damaging the Earth.  We can choose to buy products that come from companies that make an effort to be environmentally safe.  We can choose to support clean energy products.  I could make the argument that we should make changes now for future generations to enjoy the Earth and I do want my kids to live in a clean and safe environment but at this rate they won’t have a place to live if we don’t help the Earth stay alive in all its forms.  If Earth had a cancer it would be related to human activity and many have said this.  Let’s not be a cancer in the history of the Earth.  Let’s be the cure with our mindful actions to save the Earth from destruction.

Deeper
NASA keeps talking about other inhabitable planets in other star systems.  I think this is kind of cool but also think this is a big waste of time.  Humans as far as we know have not been farther than our own moon.  Why haven’t we been to Mars yet?  I think gravity has a lot to do with it.  I think our gravity is so unique that without it we may not be able to exist outside of it.  Does the Earth’s gravity create our reality?  I find it interesting that we have not been very far into the Earth’s crust.  The farthest we have drilled as far as the public knows is 7 miles or so.  That is not very far considering the distance from the center of the Earth to the surface is almost 4000 miles.  And we claim to know what is inside the Earth like there is no questioning the science already established.  What is the Earth really made of deep inside?  I have done some research on crude oil.  It is organic in nature believed to come from dead compressed plankton material formed over millions of years.  But what if oil was actually a liquid created by the Earth for some type of function similar to our own blood.  I heard recently that old oil wells that had dried up are showing to have oil again.  How does the oil come back to places where it was once drained?  Kind of went off in a tangent there but I like thinking about these kinds of things.  I question just about everything and when things don’t make sense then it opens the door to other theories and propositions..  Stay curious my friends!

We are benefiting from the Earth every second of our lives.  It would make sense for all of us humans to make a better effort to protect the Earth from harm, in whatever form that takes.  We can be mindful of our trash, we can be mindful of what we buy, we can put pressure on those in power to make better decisions about protecting the environment, and we can teach others the importance of this great planet.  As one of my regular practices I thank the Earth for being here for me.  I thank her for everything she provides me.  Without her we would be unable to exist in this 3rd dimension.

Live better, be happy, and love all that is!

Namaste!
