Our Beloved Animals

New ImageDuring our lives we have had the privilege to be blessed with the presence of beings that don’t look like us.  They are unconditionally loving and loyal to the end.  They fill our lives with joy and lift us up when we are down.  I consider them angels in the physical world.  Ancient cultures have revered animals as sacred beings sometimes worthy of worship.  In my opinion every being whether human or not is sacred and should be given the same freedoms as we give ourselves.  They should be loved and taken care of.   We all know this deep down within us.

Healers
A lot of people have cats and dogs.  They have become very popular over the years.  Dogs are especially obedient and are loyal companions and it doesn’t matter who owns them.  Dogs don’t have the judgement filter a lot of humans have.  Cats are popular too but they tend to be more independent.  They both have a lot of love to give.  They like to snuggle and lay on you.  They seem to know when you are down and want to be close to you to give you a lift in your spirits.  In some cases I believe that they can actually heal you.  It is interesting that cats and dogs get cancer when in the wild cancer doesn’t seem to exist.  Either they are taking on the bad stuff that we are taking on or they are eating food that really isn’t what they should be eating.  Would they really be eating kibble in the wild?  Nutrition for dogs and cats should be the same as how we look at nutrition for ourselves.  What do you think?  Are they taking on our bad vibes or are they just not eating what they should be eating?  On the other end of the spectrum I do believe all living things do have the ability to heal.  For instance shamans believe that being out in the jungle where the amount of living creatures and living plant based organisms are abundant can have a positive impact on your emotional and physical well being.  I agree with this as I am surrounded by nature where I live and I feel so much better being here than I do in the city.

Animal sacrifice
For many our pets are our friends.  They comfort us with unconditional love and are for the most part loyal as long as the food is good…  :)  There are many animals that have the ability to form a bond with humans.  Pigs, cows, horses, chickens, goats, birds, dolphins, whales, reptiles, squirrels, rats, ferrets, and other wild animals.  I am sure I have left some out.  But yet we still consume some of these animals for food just because it tastes good and there is a so called declaration that we need meat protein to survive.  There are some theories about Jesus that the real reason he came to Jerusalem was to end animal sacrifice.  It is interesting to me that animal sacrifice actually ended in the same time frame as Jesus was around.  Yeah it could have been that the temple was destroyed where supposedly only animal sacrifice could be performed but to me the ones who wrote history are the ones that control the planet.  One of the ten commandments is thou shalt not kill.  It doesn’t say which species of living beings, just that you should not kill anything(Not that the commandments are even credible, but it seems like an earlier writing).  I don’t like thinking of myself as a pusher of vegetarianism but I just want to put my thoughts out there and let people make their own decisions.  I don’t judge those who eat meat.  I used to love eating meat, and it is a hard thing to give up.

I have a cat again
When I moved out into the woods I made it a point to not have any animals because they need to be taken care of.  It is a lot of work sometimes as many of you pet owners know.  My kids wanted me to take on some animals and I said no on many occasions.  And before I left my ex-wife we had a cat and some dogs.  I did not want to take any of them with me at the time for several reasons one being safety for them in the wilderness, but mostly because I didn’t want the added responsibility.  I like dogs but I have always had more of a place in my heart for cats and birds.  So I had more of a connection with the cat.  Since I left, my ex also moved.  She could not take the cat and so it wandered the neighborhood and eventually found a place to stay.  At one point she asked me if I wanted the cat after she had moved and I said no(it had a chip that was registered to her), even though it could end up at the animal shelter.  Soon after that I felt a little bit of regret for not taking him and I felt bad for leaving him behind, but there was little I could do after that.  That was at least 6 months ago.  Then two weeks ago I got a message on facebook from a girl who used facebook to track me down and said that she had a cat that I had taken a picture of at one point and wanted to know if I wanted him back.  I immediately knew that I should take him in even though it would be an added responsibility and he may not survive outside as he is used to being an outdoor and indoor cat.  Since then he has been a good companion and has been doing well being outside during the day.  I don’t let him stay out at night as there are lots of predators out there.  So now I have a cat, Tommy and I consider him my physical angel here with me.  He found his way back to me for a reason I believe.

Visitors
I have had quite a few interesting encounters with different animals and insects since I have been living out in the mountainous woods.  I have seen deer, skunks, scorpions, banana slugs, and plenty of birds.  The best encounter however was when a couple of mountain lions killed a deer about 60 feet away from my trailer.  They killed it in the evening.  I saw their eyes when I was outside at about 8pm.  The next day I saw them eating the deer for lunch at about 11:30am.  I took a bunch of pictures and video.  Below is one of the videos.  It is a little fuzzy since it was zoomed in on my cell phone camera.  At the end if you can turn your volume up you will hear it call to the other one that ate before this one.  It sounds like a bird chirping but it is the lion.  I kept hearing this chirping sound for a couple days after.  The next day they dragged the deer into the redwoods I assume for better safety while they ate.  I feel blessed for being able to see these animals up close as many people in the area have never even seen one after living here for many decades.

So give your pets some extra love.  Be grateful for that animal that gave their life for your meal.  Taking it to another level, “all lives matter”.

Live better, be happy, and love all that is!

Namaste!
